Movie Review: Five K One

No Gravatar

Five K One.
Starring: Forty Da Great and Melvin Jackson Jr.

Five K One is about friends growing up in the hood aspiring to be the biggest drug dealers and businessmen. They’d like to think they believe in codes like loyalty, separating personal issues from their business, and abiding by the code of the street of “no snitching.” But you have watch the entire film to see if it rings true in the end.

This is a very solid movie, especially with the casting of the supporting actors Clifton Powell (Menace to Society, Next Friday, The Brothers) and AJ Johnson (First Friday, I Got The Hook up, House Party, Players Club). But I was disappointed in their roles.

Powell as well as Johnson have huge acting resumes, but were given menial, background roles to up and coming actors Forty Da Great, and Melvin Jackson Jr. Granted Forty and Jackson played their roles very well, but the movie could have benefited more if Powell was the lead actor with Forty and Jackson as the supporting actors.

As for the film itself, the story took too long to develop. The beginning reminded you of a music video or a behind the scenes look at a drug dealers life. But once the actual plot of the movie developed, it turned out to be not bad.

Surprisingly the cinematography was very clear and concise. The producers have what it takes to make a good movie and if they had a professional movie editor, to cut, delete scenes and shorten the story line this film could have been a ‘hood classic along the lines of Menace To Society, Paid In Full, or Belly.

Five K One definitely has room for improvement but I enjoyed watching it and recommended it as a good watch.

Lisa Wu Hartwell from Real Housewives of ATL (Interview)

Today we caught up with Lisa Wu Hartwell in Jacksonville and talked with her about the show. Typically we don’t find much interest in reality television at Ozone, but we (I) like RHOA a lot, and a lot of juicy events transpired on the show recently, so we got the scoop from Lisa, and a look into her busy life. Sidenote: Lisa is super nice, super well put together, and super classy. We (I) like her.

Shouts to Terrence Tyson & J. Dash for setting this up. Photos when we continue…

Houston Studio Owner Accuses DJ Dagwood of Robbery

No Gravatar

Apparently, there’s been some drama going down in Houston. We received an email blast from former BumSquad DJ Dagwood (who, last I heard, was busy producing amateur porn) accusing Street Pharmacy studio owners T Berry and Dirty Dave of kidnapping him at gunpoint. The whole story sounded a bit suspect so we reached out to Dirty Dave for their side of the story. I have my own opinion about who’s telling the truth in this whole matter, but I’ll keep it to myself. Who do you believe?

robbery

dagwood DJ Dagwood’s email blast:

On September 24th at approximately 10:30 pm in Houston, Texas I went to a studio to meet with Ron, a person that called me about hosting a mixtape for him. He told me that DJ Rhino reffered me to do his mixtape project. I get there off of MLK & 610 E, with my friend Lindsay and we sit down with Ron and 2 minutes later, T. Berry, a producer from Miami that I’ve known for quite sometime and Dirty Dave of Street Pharmacy/Bigg Man Entertainment come thru the door insisting that I knew about their studio getting broke into and that I should come with them to show them where their equipment is.

Mind you that I didnt know anything about none of this crazy shit cause I hadn’t been around these people. I moved to Houston 6 weeks ago and started fucking with them when I first got here but they were showing signs of jealousy and contempt so I left they ass alone. To make a long story short these nigga’s kidnapped me and my lady friend by gunpoint, made me get in a truck with them, took my cellphone and my car and held us against our will for 3 hours.

To satisfy their curiosity about me having their equipment we road to where I stay and they searched my apartment, didnt find no equipment, search my car, didnt find no equipment and later on let me go. T. Berry insisted that some white boy saw me and another individual leaving out the studio with equipment and that wasnt true because I have not been nowhere by their studio since Sept. 1st 2009 I just feel like I was set up, threatened and held against my will at gunpoint and that was a bit extreme. Although neither one of those nigga’s did anything to hurt me, its the idea of that being such a criminal act that I had no other choice but to go to the police and file criminal charges against them.

I’m not a snitch, a stool pigeon or none of the above, but i did feel that that was bogus and could have been handled different. The old me would be on my way to shoot the fuck out of these nigga’s and dip up out of town but why should I risk my freedom over some fat ass jealous ass lame ass nigga’s that didnt like me from the jump cause I came down here making moves without their fucking help.

Houston, Texas is filled with fake ass nigga’s, lame ass ho’s and I see why these motherfuckers like to stay of them drugs, cause they dont have shit else going for they stupid asses. Maybe I’m wrong for saying this based on the fact that I dont know a lot of people here but in Chicago we are real as hell and what I experienced last night was some phoney ass, hater ass shit. Them nigga’s know I didnt have they shit but it was an opportunity to try to discourage me and hurt me.

Thaddeus Berry and Dirty Dave will be charged with felony kidnapping, assualt with a deadly weapon and car jacking and I will be pressing charges against they bitch ass. I hate fat motherfuckers, I hate ugly people and I hate people that dont have enough drive in them to do what they do and not be hating on others thats trying to make a way for themselves.

dirtydave Dirty Dave of Street Pharmacy’s side of the story:

[My company] Street Pharmacy started out as an underground mixtape movement that also did party promotions, street promotions, and retail promotions for artists. I used to do radio in Mississippi and went out to Tallahassee for TJ’s DJ’s Tastemakers Record Pool meeting. That’s where I met DJ Dagwood. He was telling me that he wasn’t getting recognized; he said he was a good dude that wasn’t getting his proper respect [as a DJ] so I started to help him out with his situation.

Dagwood moved out to Houston recently, and he was homeless. [My partner] T Berry had known him for a while, so he let him move into the studio we had downtown. He was actually staying at our studio for a couple weeks. I wasn’t really comfortable with it. We had made an agreement that we weren’t gonna do anything like that, but T Berry felt sorry for him because he was living in the streets with his kids. He let them come up to the studio and the kids stayed there and everything.

After our studio was robbed of over $20,000 worth of audio and video recording equipment, T Berry started knocking on doors [near our studio] and asking them if they’d seen anything. One of our neighbors said he’d stopped and talked to [Dagwood] as he was loading it up. He said, “Yeah, that guy that was staying here all the time, he was the one loading up the equipment.” We showed him one of [Dagwood’s] CDs and they identified him from the pictures on the CD. He cleaned out our studio, completely.

We did report the robbery to the police. But we first gave him an opportunity to give our equipment back before it went to the next level. He took this [situation] and is trying to turn it into some kinda promo campaign. The claims that he was kidnapped at gunpoint are an absolute ludicrous lie. Who do you know that gets kidnapped one day, and the next day they’re free and are on the internet sending out email blasts telling everybody that they’re not a snitch? We’ve been in contact with the authorities trying to get our equipment back and they haven’t said anything about these supposed [kidnapping] charges he’s talking about.

We have witnesses that saw him take our stuff. When we confronted him about it he said, “I ain’t got it.” [T Berry] took him over by the studio so he could meet the guy that said he saw him [taking the equipment] but [the witness] wasn’t there. When we went home, he went home.

The moral of the story is, leave homeless people on the street. Anybody who doesn’t have enough hustle to put a house over their head for their kids and their family, that’s letting you know right off the bat they’re not worth fucking with. Here in the South we’re good people, friendly people, but you ain’t gonna come down here and just run nobody over. He came down here with this slick talk, talkin’ about he pimpin’ and all that. I gave him a couple girls to fuck with, you know, for promotions or modeling or whatever.

DJ Dagwood ain’t shit. And since he put that email out, there’s dudes from everywhere hittin’ us back letting us know they’re looking for him too for doing the same kinda shit. DJ Dagwood is not a reputable businessman. Also, a friend of mine recently gave him a $300 sponsorship for a mix CD that I know is never gonna show up. That dude don’t do anything but con people out of money so he can feed his kids and his wife. He’s got three boys and a girl; a nice family, man. We let that dude come to our house, take showers, spend the night. We were feeding this dude, doing everything to help this man.
